About Us

The Hamilton Street Business & Community Corporation (HSBCC) is a non-profit organization for community development of Franklin Township. It uses the comprehensive and incremental approach of Main Street Program of the New Jersey Downtown Revitalization Institute. In 2006, Franklin Township Council has created an ordinance providing for the designation of a Special Improvement District (SID) of the Hamilton St business district and the designation of HSBCC as the management authority.

WHAT IS SID: A special improvement district is a private and public partnership similar to a public authority with the ability to raise money through a special assessment to meet the needs and concerns of private business.

  1. SID focuses in promoting businesses in a professional manner.
  2. Institutes physical improvements.
  3. Upgrades customer service.
  4. SID is not a governmental agency and does not replace municipal services but may enhance them and provide business-related activities and services.
  5. SID’s primary focus is to provide competitive services that address customers needs but this goal is not the job of the municipal government although it can encourage, support, and partner with these activities.
WHAT SID ACCOMPLISHES: The SID is the next major step in the revitalization process of Hamilton Street. The SID will enable the business community along Hamilton Street to add to the pool of resources already being used to improve Hamilton Street. The funds created by the SID can be used to address needs such as additional security, parking and circulation improvements, streetscape enhancement and marketing of the business district.
The boundaries:All commercial properties located along Hamilton Street from Berry St. to the New Brunswick Township border and one block on either side of Hamilton Street in this area.
