Physical Improvements

  • Seasonal Banners: Banners installed along the business district and will continue hanging banners every change of the season.
  • Clean District: New trash and recycling containers were installed throughout the district and the township empties the containers weekly while HSBCC maintains the grass cutting of the sidewalks.
  • Facade Improvement: A matching fund provides an opportunity to commercial property and business owners to renovate and restore their building facades. Almost 27 businesses were funded and assisted in this improvement through the Somerset County EDIP with the total amount of $264,410.64. Businesses may still apply pending on the funding availability.
  • Business Development Incentive Fund: A matching grant for professional services rendered by an architect and/or engineer to be used for planning, zoning and/or construction approval. Only three businesses have used this grant with the total amount of $6,700 while the two approved applications were still encumbered. The remaining balance of $59,088 of this grant was approved by the Somerset County EDIP to be allocated for the trash and recycling containers.
  • Pedestrian & Traffic Circulation/Parking Study: Completed and implemented with street pavement markings and signing including installation of stanchions as traffic calming device. Stanchions are removed during winter.
  • Traffic Electronic Calming Devices were installed in the east and west sides of Hamilton Street.
  • Decorative Lights: For better pedestrian lighting decorative lights were installed and completed on both sides of the district.
  • HUD-CDBG Funding received with the amount of $87,000 for planters, benches as partial completion of streetscape design with an administrative budget.
  • Streetscape Pilot Section: A pilot section of the streetscape has begun and will be completed in Spring 2010 on both sides of central district from Baeir to Douglas. The cost of $250,000 came from the grants of the State and the County as the initial implementation of the design until its completion depending on the grant availability.
  • Funding applications were submitted to ARRA and DOT for half million to complete the entire district’s streetscape.
  • Property maintenance monitor: Collaborates with the township to ensure clean and safe property.
